At Convergence we believe that blended finance can disrupt traditional development finance as we know it, by attracting private sector funds to developing countries in volumes never seen before. Rapid global population growth coupled with a shift in dietary preferences is causing unprecedented pressure on food systems, straining and depleting soils, water and biodiversity. The effects of climate change including higher temperatures, unpredictable weather patterns and invasive crops and pests are exacerbating this challenge. While agriculture must to adapt to new climate realities, it is also a major source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) is an approach to managing landscapes that applies a three-pronged strategy to address both climate change and food security, aiming to simultaneously achieve increased productivity, enhanced resilience and reduced emissions.

This training will look at CSA in practice and the potential broader impact of a more sustainable agricultural production value chain on health, environment, livelihoods and gender. We will invite industry practitioners to share the latest global trends for investment in the sector and the role that blended finance can play in financing and scaling up interventions. Three blended finance transactions demonstrating the application of blended finance in support of CSA will be profiled.

The [Catalytic Climate Finance Facility (CC Facility)](http://www.ccfacility.org) accelerates the implementation of high-impact, ready-to-scale financial structures, filling a market gap in mobilizing private capital for climate action in developing economies. The initiative is a partnership between [Climate Policy Initiative (CPI)](https://www.climatepolicyinitiative.org/) and [Convergence](http://www.convergence.finance), who are combining their expertise to turn innovative financial vehicles into scalable solutions, to increase the available investable pipeline and grow the climate finance market.

The CC Facility accelerates the implementation of climate finance solutions by offering grant funding of up to USD 500,000, customized acceleration support over 12-18 months, and knowledge-sharing resources through a learning hub. The initiative aims to be an ecosystem builder and address a market need in scaling blended finance structures and catalyzing capital for climate change.

It also provided an overview of the blended finance landscape and covered the role of the various stakeholders in the space.

The State of Blended Finance is Convergence's flagship annual report that provides an updated analysis of the blended finance market, including blending approaches, sectors, regions, and investor trends. The launch event included a presentation of report highlights and key findings followed by a panel discussion featuring speakers from Allianz, The Nature Conservancy, IFC, and The Shell Foundation.

For the first time, this year’s report focuses on climate and provides an overview of the state of the market for both blended finance for mitigation and adaptation, including insights on deal and investor trends. The report also includes includes expert commentary from Swiss Re, the Nature Conservancy, Shell Foundation, and more.
