Scaling the Insurance Sector’s Role in Blended Finance

Convergence and the Global Asia Insurance Partnership (GAIP) is currently developing a practical playbook to guide the insurance sector in engaging with blended finance to mobilize resources for sustainable development and support development of innovative products and solutions which can support business growth of the insurance sector. The playbook will focus on how the sector can support the de-risking and scaling of blended finance that can fund projects that not only enhance climate resilience but also mitigate health risks, such as building climate-resilient healthcare infrastructure and other large-scale initiatives that target health vulnerabilities caused by climate change.

In light of these findings, and as part of the process to develop the playbook, this session aims to bring together senior insurance executives to:
- Raise awareness of blended finance structures and explore possibilities of new product innovation supporting business and sustainability objectives 
- Explore challenges that have hindered insurance sector involvement.
- Brainstorm opportunities to accelerate insurance participation in blended finance in supporting the climate-health nexus objectives in the Asia region.

The event will begin with an presentation on the overview of blended finance, leading into the roundtable focused on three core areas of engagement: risk advisory, underwriting and coverage and investment, followed by a collaborative open discussion.
